WELCOME TO WOODTEK BIOCHAR

Welcome to Woodtek Biochar, providing information and feedback from our experience producing and using Biochar. Our Woodtek C1000 Biochar plant is at the forefront of biochar technology, developed whilst conducting farm-scale trials with Biochar.

Throughout 2023 we have been very busy working on three C1000 Biochar projects alongside conducting Biochar trials. During 2024 we are going to publicly share what we are learning from Biochar so please, check our website to follow our progress.

All the Biochar used has been produced with the pilot Woodtek C600 Biochar plant. We have been applying it to land and other applications on our 100-acre family farm since 2021, where Woodtek Engineering Ltd is also located. Operating the pilot C600 plant for over 38,000, alongside the research and development of the Woodtek C1000 has allowed Woodtek to engineer out potential issues from operation and maintenance. Woodtek as a family business has over 30 years of experience operating, installing and servicing a wide range of biomass boilers and energy from waste plants ensuring the C1000 is the complete solution.

The focus of the family engineering firm Woodtek Engineering Ltd is that large-scale production of Biochar should also produce heat and electricity, emphasizing electricity due to limitations of heat use throughout the year. The Woodtek C1000 plant with a unique precision two-stage pyrolysis thermal combustion is the best available technology (BAT) for thermal energy from producing Biochar. This energy can be easily converted into electricity ensuring even the lowest grade feedstocks still provide enough energy to produce more electricity than a C1000 plant requires resulting in carbon-negative production of electricity.

The current fuel source is locally grown coppice of native species, such as willow, alder, hazel, hawthorn and chestnut harvested at a 10 to 15-year rotation, silvicultural trimmings and clean green garden waste. Normally over 80% of fuel requirements can be sourced sustainably within a 5-mile radius and 100% within 10 miles.

Due to our unique integral flue gas filtration technology, we are removing over 99% of the two main acid pollutants So2 (sulphur) & Hcl (chlorine). The fact we wet scrub all flue gas also means harmful particulate is virtually eliminated. The resulting emissions are less polluting than a gas-fired plant with a truly negative carbon footprint.
